With the Premier League starting this week, there will be some players looking to extend their legacies as some of the top Premier League goalscorers to play in the league. And with the 2023/24 season seeing the most goals ever scored in one season in 1,246 (an average of 3.28 goals per game), it is a good time to be a striker right now.
Here is a list of the top 20 current leaders in Premier League goals. Will any of these players be top of the charts at the end of the season? Let us know in the comments.
20. Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Everton) – 54 Goals
Starting off the list is Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin, with 54 goals. Known for his heading ability and physical presence, Calvert-Lewin has become a crucial part of Everton’s attack. Arguably he should have more given his talent, but playing in a low scoring Everton team and with his poor injury record, DCL will be hoping he can play consistently and move up the charts this season.
19. Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United) – 54 Goals
Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes also has 54 goals. Since joining the club, Fernandes has been a revelation, combining creative playmaking with his goal-scoring prowess to transform United’s midfield. An impressive 35% of these goals (19) have come from the penalty spot.
18. James Milner (Brighton) – 55 Goals
Veteran James Milner, now with Brighton, has scored 55 goals in his illustrious Premier League career spanning 634 games and 22 seasons. Milner’s versatility and experience have made him a valuable player for every club he has played for.
17. James Ward-Prowse (West Ham) – 56 Goals
James Ward-Prowse, with 56 goals, is well-known for his set-piece mastery. His ability to take free-kicks and penalties has been a significant asset for West Ham and his previous clubs. West Ham have added some serious firepower to the squad this season, including Brazilian Luis Guilherme. He is just 1 shy of matching David Beckham’s free kick record. Can he do it this season?
16. Diogo Jota (Liverpool) – 57 Goals
Liverpool’s Diogo Jota has scored 57 goals, adding significant firepower to Liverpool’s already formidable attack. Jota’s movement and finishing ability have made him a key contributor since his arrival.
15. Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa) – 59 Goals
Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins, with 59 goals, has quickly established himself as a reliable goal scorer in the Premier League. His sharpness in front of goal has been crucial for Villa’s attacking play and he was vital in securing top 4. He will be looking to push on from an impressive Euro 2024 where he probably feels he could have played more minutes for an England side struggling for goals.
14. Richarlison (Spurs) – 60 Goals
Spurs’ Richarlison has 60 goals to his name. The Brazilian forward is known for his work rate, versatility, and ability to score important goals, making him a key player for his team. With the arrival of Dominic Solanke, he may have to work hard to secure a place in Ange Postecoglu’s starting XI next season.
13. Erling Haaland (Manchester City) – 63 Goals
Erling Haaland, one of the most talked-about strikers in the world, has already scored 63 goals in a short span with Manchester City. His incredible goal-scoring record is a testament to his talent and potential to break more records. With 37 goals needed to reach 100 in season 3, it seems like a tough ask for most Premier League goalscorers. But this is a man who likes to do the unimaginable.
12. Danny Welbeck (Brighton) – 67 Goals
Brighton’s Danny Welbeck has accumulated 67 goals in the Premier League. The experienced forward has played for several top clubs in Arsenal and Man United, and continues to contribute valuable goals for Brighton.
11. Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City) – 68 Goals
Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne is not just a master playmaker but also a capable goal scorer with 68 goals. His ability to strike from distance and his composure in front of goal make him a dual threat. The Belgian is already 2nd in the all time assist leagues, with 112, only behind Ryan Giggs on a seemingly unsurmountable 162.
10. Chris Wood (Nottingham Forest) – 69 Goals
Chris Wood, now with Nottingham Forest, has 69 Premier League goals. Known for his aerial prowess and physical presence, Wood has been a reliable target man for various clubs in the league.
9. Danny Ings (West Ham) – 71 Goals
West Ham’s Danny Ings is another seasoned striker on this list, with 71 goals. Despite battling injuries throughout his career, Ings has consistently found ways to score when fit. With West Ham signing German striker Niclas Füllkrug, and Michail Antonio always finding ways to score goals, Ings’ game time might be limited this season.
8. Gabriel Jesus (Arsenal) – 73 Goals
Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus has scored 73 goals, contributing significantly to Arsenal’s attacking prowess. The Brazilian forward is known for his quick feet, intelligence, and ability to find the back of the net. With 4 Premier League titles to his name, he will be hoping to stay injury free and help Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal go one better this season and lift the title.
7. Marcus Rashford (Manchester United) – 83 Goals
Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford, with 83 goals, is desperate for a good season. Inconsistency and injuries have stopped the Englishman from being higher up this list and with a disappointing snub from the England squad for Euro 2024, he will be pushing for more. His combination of speed, skill, and finishing ability has made him an exciting player for both club and country.
6. Callum Wilson (Newcastle United) – 88 Goals
Newcastle United’s Callum Wilson has proven himself as a reliable goal scorer, amassing 88 goals. His ability to convert chances has been vital for Newcastle as they look to establish themselves as a top club in the league.
5. Son Heung-Min (Spurs) – 120 Goals
Tottenham Hotspur’s Son Heung-Min, with 120 goals, is one of the most versatile attackers in the league. His pace, two-footedness, and eye for goal make him a constant threat to any defence.
4. Romelu Lukaku (Chelsea) – 121 Goals
Romelu Lukaku, also representing Chelsea, has 121 goals to his name. The powerful Belgian striker has had a storied career across multiple leagues, but his ability to score goals in the Premier League remains undiminished. Despite still being a Chelsea player at the time of writing, it could be a while before this tally is added to, if Lukaku ever decides to return to the English game.
3. Raheem Sterling (Chelsea) – 123 Goals
Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling comes in next with 123 goals. Known for his agility and sharpness, Sterling has been a consistent performer, first for Manchester City and now for Chelsea. His knack for being in the right place at the right time has seen him rack up an impressive goal tally. Chelsea have been hoarding wingers this summer, so competition will be fierce. Another player on this list desperate for a consistent season, Sterling will have to fight hard to get to the front.
2. Jamie Vardy (Leicester City) – 136 Goals
Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy follows with 136 goals. Vardy’s rise from non-league football to becoming one of the Premier League’s most feared strikers is nothing short of remarkable. His pace, positioning, and clinical finishing have been key to Leicester’s success over the years and his contribution to the title winning side in the 2015/16 season. Despite being 37 years of age, expect this man to find some goals this season.
1. Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) – 157 Goals
At the pinnacle of this list is Liverpool’s talisman, Mohamed Salah. With 157 goals, Salah continues to be a force to be reckoned with in front of goal. His consistency and ability to deliver in crucial moments make him an indispensable asset for Liverpool and one of the best Premier League goalscorers of all time. A new manager and coming off a relatively unimpressive season last year, Salah will be looking to hit the ground running under Arne Slot. Liverpool have been quiet in the summer window so the Dutch manager will be relying on his star man to come up with some big goals this year.
