Chelsea have been offered the chance to sign Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic in a sensational swap deal that would take Jorginho the other way. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Sarri is keen to offload the Bosnian. And he wants to bring Jorginho back to Italy, to work with him for a third time.
Sarri and Jorginho – A match made in Heaven
It’s no secret that Maurizio Sarri is a fan of Jorginho. The star in his hugely successful Napoli side, Sarri wasted no time in bringing the midfielder to Chelsea two years ago.
We have previously written about Sarri and his tactics at Chelsea. A high number of passes keeps the ball rotating and recycling, and Jorginho is the key to this. As we said at the time “Keep Jorginho quiet and they lose their spark”. It could be that opposition clubs spotted this too, as Jorginho was relatively ineffective in his first season in London.
After mixed success at the helm of the Blues, Sarri left after one season to return back to Italy. This time taking on the big task of succeeding Max Allegri as manager of champions Juventus.
Despite having some of the biggest stars in world football, this has been the toughest season for a while for the Old Lady. Lazio have had an outstanding season, and have challenged them all they way. Ciro Immobile has led the charge. The striker has scored 27 goals this season – unmatched by any other player in Europes top 5 leagues. Helped by playmaker Luis Alberto, who has provided 12 assists, the side are not going to give up without a fight.
There is currently just 1 point between the teams, with uncertainty still surrounding the future of the season.
Pjanic to Chelsea?
It now seems like Sarri is looking to dip into the transfer market to remain at the top. And he has identified old friend Jorginho as his first target.
To sweeten the deal, it seems he is willing to offer Bosnian Miralem Pjanic to Chelsea. The midfielder has started 20 games for the side, but it seems Sarri is happy to part ways to bring in his target.
A number of clubs in Europe have shown interest in Pjanic. PSG being at the forefront, Di Marzio believes they have a strong chance of winning his signature, if things do not work out with Chelsea.
“…the negotiation still lags behind today compared to what has already started with the PSG.”
Many feel, however, that manager Frank Lampard would not be as interested in signing the 30-year-old as some of his European counterparts.
Jorginho has been a big part of Lampard’s plans this season. He has played 26 games, and contributed to 6 goals, and is a mature head in what has been a young squad.
Youngsters like Charlie Gilmour and Ethan Ampadu have also made a case for the role, and signing a 30-year-old may be against the long-term vision that Lampard has for the side.
They have also been linked with £70 million midfielder Declan Rice
Chelsea fans, would you take Pjanic in exchange for Jorginho?
