Bayern Munich are keen to bring Manchester City winger Leroy Sane back to Germany. The side have reportedly stated how much they would be willing to pay too – between €60m (£52m) and €70m (£60m).
The German’s contract currently expires in Summer 2021. So, with only 13 months remaining on his contract, he would be free to discuss pre-contract negotiations as early as January.
This is not the first time Bayern Munich have expressed an interest in Sane. Last summer there were strong links between the two, following the departure of legends Franck Ribéry, who was leaving the club, and retiring Arjen Robben. Rumours were they were willing to pay up to €100m (£88m) last season. But it is thought the lower price reflects the contract situation.
Leroy Sane Premier League Stats
Sane has had differing levels of success from his time in Manchester. He joined the club in 2016 from German side Schalke for a reported £37 million. In this time he has:
- 89 Premier League appearances
- 25 goals, and 28 assists
- 2 Premier League Titles
- 1 FA Cup, and 2 League Cups
- Just 9 losses
Unfortunately, a terrible injury to his ACL has kept the 24-year-old out for the whole of the 2019/2020 season. But, with Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez finding it difficult to reach the heights they have previously shown, it could be said that he has been missed.
There has been no indication, though, that they are close to agreeing a contract. It is also being reported that Bayern manager Hansi Flick has talked to the player over the phone.
With Coutinho returning to his parent club Barcelona, and it looking like Bayern will not extend the Brazilian’s contract, the left side could be open for a pacy winger instead.
City have been linked with the former Liverpool man Coutinho already recently. Alongside names like Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka, Pep’s side are not short of possible replacements should the German winger decide to leave.
It had been speculated in the media recently Bayern wanted to wait and see how Sane returned after a cruciate ligament injury before deciding whether to renew their efforts from last summer.
City fans, would you choose to let Sane leave?
